In true arts integration style, students demonstrate the tradition of Lacrosse in a video made in P.E. for our special day. Finally, there is a chance to experience sand painting, make a "talking feather," add to their regalia with a beaded bracelet, or try a museum scavenger hunt. That's 8!!! different projects... from masks to totems to skin paintings to beading and more... but there is SO MUCH to explore in such a short time and TWO museums to stage. Each year around this time, an exhibit of artwork created by the museum staff is held in his memory. I always love revisiting the Phillips, where I spent many hours as a child and as a museum assistant when I was a young adult. Second graders are experts on the subject of art (they've been discussing art for 3 years now!) and had a great time finding the "vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines" and the "geometric and organic shapes."
